Abstract:
The focus of this 2-part 100 min session is on the basics of weed plant identification. Participants will learn about key plant parts for identification, features of grass and broadleaf weed seedlings, traits of families of weed species, and use of botanical keys for identification. Participants will receive 50 minutes of instruction, then spend 30 minutes on practicing identification skills on seedling plants, and 20 minutes reviewing the key features of the seedlings.
Qualifications:
Dr. Anita Dille, Professor, Weed Ecology, Department of Agronomy, Kansas State University. Anita Dille has been teaching weed identification in her undergraduate “Weed Science” course and has co-taught this session for 10 years.
Rachel Veenstra is an Assistant Professor of Crop Science in the Department of Agronomy at Kansas State University. Dr. Veenstra earned her B.S. degree from Missouri State University and her Ph.D. from Kansas State University. Her primary activities include teaching the Crop Science and Plant/Seed Identification courses, coaching the Crops Team, and developing a Crop Ecology research program.

His research program focuses on integrating field, statistics, remote sensing and modeling research for understanding plant responses.
Dr. Adrian Correndo is a Postdoctoral researcher under Dr. Ciampitti in the Department of Agronomy at Kansas State University. Adrian was born in Argentina, where he obtained both his B.S. in Agronomy and M.S. degree in Soil Science from the University of Buenos Aires. He is proudly a K-State alumni, where he earned his Ph.D. degree in Agronomy in 2021. His research at K-State is focused in corn and soybean crops, with special attention to soil and plant nitrogen dynamics

The Kansas Certified Crop Advisor Board of Directors is pleased to recognize continuous years of CCA certification. This year, CCA would like to celebrate anniversaries by gathering on Tuesday, July 11th for lunch at KSU’s North Agronomy Farm (2200 Kimball Ave in Manhattan, KS 66502 – just north of Bill Snyder Family Stadium).
The recognition lunch is free of charge & will take place in conjunction with the KSU + KARA Summer Field Days. Lunch begins at 12:20 p.m., at which time anniversaries will be acknowledged in five-year increments, from five to 30 years of service.
