My research interest is in environmental soil science as it interacts with production agriculture. Current projects include soil-herbicide interactions, fate of soil-applied herbicides, and herbicide persistence in soil. We have a continued effort in weed competition in soybean and corn with particular emphasis on weed control timing and crop water use. I assist in research involving tillage methods and N and P movement in agricultural systems.
I conduct herbicide efficacy and fate experiments at the Brownstown Agronomy Research Center and on irrigated sand locations. I manage the irrigated research farm in Kilbourne, IL (Sand Farm) and the rain-exclusion shelters on the South Farm. My research and outreach program is centered on the behavior of herbicides, fertilizers, and other amendments in the soil environment. Most of my work is applied and deals with crop production systems. I provide outreach programs in water quality as it pertains to agricultural chemicals. I also address soil management, weed control on irrigated sands and other topics. I coordinate the Illinois Irrigation Association and provide programming for crop production.
