Kansas Secretary of Agriculture

Mike Beam was appointed secretary of the Kansas Department of Agriculture by Governor Laura Kelly in January 2019 and confirmed in April. Beam came to KDA following 38 years of experience in association management for the Kansas Livestock Association. He has served as the Executive Director of the Ranchland Trust of Kansas, an affiliate of KLA, for 15 years. He has dedicated his career to assisting farmers and ranchers to advance their policy and public relations needs and in building highly visible, responsive and respected organizations. In his role at KLA he participated and led coalitions in strategizing and implementing legislative and regulatory initiatives.

Tucker Stewart

Senior Agricultural Policy Advisor | Senator Roger Marshall, M.D.

Born and raised in small town Kansas, Tucker has been involved in production agriculture all his life. Growing up on a diversified farming operation and cow/calf seedstock operation gives him a unique perspective in law and government in agriculture. He is alumni of Kansas State University and also graduated with honors from Washburn University School of Law, where he founded the first ag-related student group, the Washburn Agricultural Law Society. He was formerly a part of the Kansas Livestock Association’s legal and government affairs staff. He now serves as Senator Roger Marshall, M.D.’s Senior Agricultural Policy Advisor in Washington, D.C.

Daren Coppock

President and CEO | Ag Retailers Association

Daren Coppock is the President & CEO of the Agricultural Retailers Association, a trade group serving and representing suppliers to America’s farmers. Before joining ARA in 2009 he was the Chief Executive Officer of the National Association of Wheat Growers. Raised on a family century wheat and cattle ranch in eastern Oregon, he holds a degree in Agricultural and Resource Economics from Oregon State University and was named OSU’s College of Agricultural Sciences Distinguished Alumnus in 2011. Alpha Gamma Rho named him as one of its Brothers of the Century at its 100th anniversary in 2004. He and his family reside in Falls Church, Virginia.

Acting Administrator EPA Region 7

Edward H. Chu is the Acting Regional Administrator for the Environmental Protection Agency’s Region 7 in Lenexa, Kansas. When not serving in the acting regional administrator role, Ed serves as the Deputy Regional Administrator for Region 7.

Ed brings decades of environmental and energy policy experience, passion for public service and sustainability, and commitment to effective management.

Ed has held key leadership positions since arriving at the Environmental Protection Agency in 1995. Ed was the Assistant Regional Administrator for the Pacific Northwest and Alaska Region (Region 10), serving four states and 271 federally recognized tribes. He also served as the Assistant Regional Administrator for the Southeast Region (Region 4), the most populous EPA region, serving eight states and six federally recognized tribes.
