The Kansas Agribusiness Retailers Association is a volunteer organization whose membership includes over 700 agribusiness firms that are primarily retail facilities that supply fertilizers, crop protection chemicals, seed, petroleum products and agronomic expertise to Kansas farmers. KARA’s membership base also includes ag-chemical and equipment manufacturing firms, distribution firms and other various businesses associated with the retail crop production industry.

President and CEO
Ron Seeber was named president and CEO of KARA in October 2017 after working for the association since July 2008. He guides and coordinates association activities to include those of members and staff. Seeber is also responsible for maintaining a professional relationship with government, other associations, allied industry, educational institutions and the general public as necessary and in the best interest of the association and for attainment of its objectives.
He maintains a cooperative working relationship with all Regional National Organizations that we are affiliated with (NGFA, AFIA, GEAPS, TEGMA, NAEGA, ARA, CLA ,TFI, MACA and BIO.) He communicates KGFA/KARA policies and issues to those associations. He has regular communication with KGFA/KARA Chairmen, officers and members of the board and with committees and task forces on policy, programs and issues of both associations as appropriate.
Seeber earned a Political Science Degree from the University of Kansas. After graduating in 1991, he worked for Senator Bob Dole in Washington, DC until the Senator’s resignation from the United State’s Senate and unsuccessful Presidential Campaign. He moved back to Kansas in 1997 and worked as the Assistant Secretary of Administration for Governor Bill Graves, Political Director of the Kansas Republican Party , and then lobbied for 6 years for firm representing over 30 different companies and associations.
Tom R. Tunnell
Tom Tunnell served as KGFA’s top executive staff officer since September 1980 before his retirement in 2018. Tom’s primary role is to serve in an advisory capacity to the CEO, staff, and KGFA and KARA Boards.
Senior Vice President, General Counsel
Randy Stookey was promoted to senior vice president after serving as the association’s general counsel since November 2011. Stookey is the lead lobbyist for the Associations and the contact for government affairs stakeholders from member companies and for lobbying clients. During the Legislative Session, Stookey monitors and responds to all bills of consequence for the industry. In addition, Stookey assists in the management of the Kansas Agri Business Council, the Associations’ Joint Political Action Committee.
Stookey is responsible for keeping current on all issues affecting the agribusiness industries and remaining knowledgeable on the regulations and laws pertaining to the grain and feed, fertilizer and agrichemical industries. Stookey is also the staff contact for Legislative Committees. As General Counsel, Stookey assists the President, Executive staff, Board, and membership with addressing legal questions and compliance issues.
Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Staci Storey has been with KARA since October 2016. She is responsible for KARA’s accounting system including financial reports and oversight, accounts payable & accounts receivable and personnel records. She is the Association office and building manager and ethics compliance officer for the association.
Vice President of Government Affairs
Shahira is the lobbyist for the associations and the contact for government affairs stakeholders from member companies and for lobbying clients. During the Legislative Session, Shahira writes the weekly legislative updates for each association. In addition, she assists in the management of the Kansas Agri Business Council, the Associations’ Joint Political Action Committee and, of course, she manages the TAL program and its funding.
Shahira is responsible for keeping up to date on all issues affecting the agribusiness industries and remaining knowledgeable about the regulations and laws pertaining to the grain and feed, fertilizer and agrichemical industries. She is one of the key staff contacts for the KGFA and KARA Legislative committees.
Shari D. Bennett
Vice President of Event Planning
Shari Bennett has been with KARA since June 2002. She is responsible for all of the Association’s major meeting & golf tournament planning. She also assists with the Tomorrow’s Agribusiness Leaders Program. She is the staff contact for the Expo Advisory Committee.
Director of Member Services
Sam Tenpenny has been with KARA since May 2016. She is responsible for the management of KARA’s membership recruitment and retention programs. She is also responsible for the development and coordination of the Association’s educational programs and oversees numerous special projects. She serves as staff contact for the Membership & Training Committee.
Lisa A. Anschutz
Senior Director of Internal Operations
Lisa Anschutz has been with KARA since August 1987. She is responsible for maintaining membership records, directory listings, email addresses for electronic communications, educational programs & major meeting registration. She also provides support for the Vice President of Member Services and Vice President of Marketing and Communications.
Executive Administrative Professional
Mitzi Dodds has been with KGFA since February 2017. She provides support for the President and General Counsel. She is responsible for marketing, promotion and advertising sales for the Kansas Official Directory. She is also the contact for Committee volunteers.
Director of Communications and Marketing
Trae Green has been with KARA since September 2017. He oversees all communications products provided by the Association including print and electronic newsletters, websites, news releases, annual reports, online advertising and marketing brochures, while also administering the Scholarship Program.
